Well, it takes a stupid political test to get me to update again. Dallas is treating me well, as is Coors Brewing Company. I still miss everyone in Athens and Atlanta, maybe I'll make it back that way someday...I've come to realize how beneficial it is to move around the country on a constant basis. Well, not constantly, but maybe every few years. It really changes your perspective on shit.

Its funny the similarities that I see here. Dallas and Atlanta are virtually the same city, except that the people here are infinitely more about image, looks, and wealth than they are in Atlanta. Except, unlike Atlanta, these people dont have the $$$ and power to back it up. We call them the "$30,000 millionaires" and they are a dime a dozen. Everyone is trying to pose as someone else, and it really provides for a great deal of entertainment. I love the people here, they say that Georgia is the center of Southern hospitality, but I would have to beg to differ. The weather is beautiful, traffic is still terrible, and I still spend 5 hours a day in my car, but for some reason I'm so much more satisfied than I was in ATL. But, I'm crazy, so what do I know?

Well, I'll try to update more often than once every 3 months...

Oh yeah, here is the political test.
New Weezer kicks ass. Never thought they had it in them. Its like the polar opposite of their best album, very happy and poppy, yet with actual substance.

New System of a Down is...good so far. I still dont know why it took them 4 years to follow up Toxicity, but I'm glad that another album is coming out so soon after this one. This record lacks the substance that Toxicity had.

IM me if you want them.

quick update on the Dave:

-I've spent 90% of the past three weeks out of town. First it was Miami, then it was Miami, then Atlanta for a few days, then Macon yesterday. I am so glad that I don't have to travel this weekend....

-I got promoted! I will be moving to Atlanta in about a month to take over that market. Why? Because its almost double what I am making now! And a whole host of other benefits. So, if you are in ATL and want to hang out with the Miller girls, give me a call.

-Which brings me to my third and fourth points. A) anyone need a nice place to live in Athens? and 2) Anyone know a nice place to live in ATL? I'm flexible on location and price, but i'd like someplace nice.

As imagined, this move is pretty hard on my lovely girlfriend, but we will work through it as always. Before I leave Athens, I AM planning on throwing a "Little Dave in the Big City" going away party, anyone got an extra $40 million laying around?

Oh yeah, and I can't wait to go see The Arcade Fire on Wednesday.

This weekend was kind of a blur. Lots of promos, football, and beer.

Had a keg party last night. The only casualty was our glass table beside our couch. Someone decided to try out some new wrestling moves and they ended up through it. For once, nothing of mine was destroyed!

Except for the rest of the house. Which I am going to get started on as soon as I file this paperwork. Go me.

Listening to the new (ish) Pearl Jam live record, recorded at Benaroya Hall. It is incredible. Very strippped down, with ukelele(sp?) versions of a lot of songs. The setlist is from their mid-to late period, with only a few early standbys (Black, Ledbetter) appearing. I love Pearl Jam live, they really are one of the best live bands around.

From the previous article:

There are some skills Bush can use with little or no effort; according to friends, he can quickly size people up and detect their vanities and weak points. Other skills appear to require too much effort for him to bother with. He has rarely been interested in the details of any policy matter, believing that he "has people" who can master the subject for him. But Bush clearly is willing to work hard and observe strict discipline when it matters to him—for instance, in physical conditioning. The evidence is that he approaches campaign preparation with the same iron will.

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/...storyId=4052162

Ten things you should know about the debates:

Quote:
(10.) They aren't debates!

"A debate is a head-to-head, spontaneous, structured argument over the merits of an issue," Rice says. "Under the ridiculous 32-page contract that reads like the rules for the Miss America Pageant, there will be no candidate-to-candidate questions, no rebuttal to your opponent's points, no cross questions or cross answers, no rebuttals, no follow-up questions -- that's not a debate, that's a news conference."

(9.) The debates were hijacked from the truly independent League of Women Voters in 1986.

"The League of Women Voters ran these debates with an iron hand as open, transparent, non-partisan events from 1976 to 1984," Rice says. "The men running the major campaigns ended their control when the League defiantly included John Anderson and Ross Perot, and used tough moderators and formats the parties didn't like. The parties snatched the debates from the League and formed the Commission on Presidential Debates -- the CPD -- in 1986."

(8.) The "independent and non-partisan" Commission on Presidential Debates is neither independent nor non-partisan.

"CPD should stand for 'Cloaking-device for Party Deceptions' -- it is not an independent commission on anything. The CPD is under the total control of the Republican and Democratic parties and by definition bipartisan, not non-partisan. Walter Cronkite called CPD-sponsored debates an 'unconscionable fraud.'"

(7.) The secretly negotiated debate contract bars Kerry and Bush from any and all other debates for the entire campaign.

"Under what I call the Debate Suppression and Monopolization Clause of the contract, it is illegal for the candidates to debate each other anywhere else during the campaign," Rice says. "We need a new criminal law for reckless endangerment of democracy."

(6.) The debate contract effectively excludes all other serious presidential candidates from participating in the debates.

"This is what I call the Obstruction of Democratic Debate Rule, which sets an impossibly high threshold for third-party candidates... Where are we, Russia? Isn't Vladimir Putin wiping out democracy in Russia by excluding all opposing candidates from the airwaves during his re-election campaigns? Most new ideas come from third parties -- they should be in the debates."

(5.) All members of the studio audience must be certified as "soft" supporters of Bush and Kerry, under selection procedures they approve.

"It's not enough to rig the debate -- they have to rig the audience, too? The contract reads: 'The debate will take place before a live audience of between 100 and 150 persons who... describe themselves as likely voters who are soft Bush supporters or soft Kerry supporters.' We should crash this charade and jump up in the middle to declare ourselves hard opponents of this Kabuki dance."

(4.) These "soft" audience members must "observe in silence."

"Soft and silent... In what I'm calling the Silence of the Lambs Clause of this absurd contract, the audience may not move, speak, gesture, cough or otherwise show that they are alive and thinking."

(3.) The "extended discussion" portion of the debate cannot exceed 30 seconds.

"Other than the stupidity of the debate contract, what topic do you know that can be extendedly discussed in 30 seconds?"

(2.) Important issues are locked out by the CPD debate rules and party control.

"Really important but sticky or tough issues get axed, because the parties control the questions and topics," Rice says. "For example, in 2000, Gore and Bush mentioned the following issues zero times: Child poverty, the drug war, homelessness, working-class families, NAFTA, prisons, corporate crime and corporate welfare."

(1.) Fortune 100 corporations are the main funders of the CPD-sponsored debates, and the CPD's co-chairs are corporate lobbyists.

The CPD is run by Frank Fahrenkopf, a pharmaceutical industry lobbyist, and Paul Kirk, a top gambling lobbyist," Rice says. "And the biggest muliti-national corporations write the checks that fund the CPD -- Phillip Morris, Anheuser-Busch and dozens more. The audience may have to be silent and motionless, but the corporate sponsors can have banners, beer tents, Budweiser girls handing out pamphlets protesting beer taxes -- a corporate-sponsored circus to go along with the Kabuki Debates. Could we get a more fitting description of our democracy?"

So it has been a very busy week, and I haven't really had a lot of time to update, so here goes.

Monday and Tuesday consisted of me travelling to Atlanta and Macon, respectively, to hold trainings for my job. Funny thing is, I was training 50 someodd people on promotions that I myself had never done. Apparently I did a good job, because my boss repeatedly told me how impressed that she was with my presentations. Right on. I also decided that I hate Macon. Sorry Krista.

After travelling for a few days, I had to go do promos on Wednesday night. The thing that I love about my job thus far (which will not continue in the future) is the ability for me to cancel promotions (i.e. not work) whenever the mood strikes me. Now, being the responsible person that I am, I have only done this twice: Once during the attack of Ivan, and then again on Wednesday night. It was Adam's birthday, so when I got downtown and saw that A) Firehouse had four people in it, and B) 5 hot blondes cornered me and demanded that I let Lindsey off of work so she could go out with them, I relented and went out with my friends too. And got really drunk. And got home at 4:30 AM. And had to get up and be in Winder at 7:30 AM. I was a zombie. Not the good kind of "send more cops" zombie, either, but the angry, pissed off Dawn 2004 zombie. Luckily, I went and napped for a couple of hours midday and was ready for the main event that night.

WILCO at the FOX!!!!

I decided to take Krista to her first "real" concert, and as luck would have it, we scored some excellent (Orchestra, Row E) tickets to Wilco the day before the show. What an incredible show it was. Tweedy owned the crowd, repeatedly railing against Bush

"If you don't like what I have to say, go get a big crowd of people and a microphone and you can say whatever the fuck YOU want. Or you could just go listen to one of those great Republican rock bands."

Funny guy. They played all but two songs off of the new record, which is made to be played live. The Neil Young guitar solos kicked the crowds ass, especially on Spiders and At Least Thats What You Said. Older stuff was scattered throughout the set, specifically Kingpin off of Being There, which was apparently a spur of the moment addition. New guitarist Nels Cline (of the Minutemen and a billion other things) was great. During the second song, Krista goes "Holy shit, he is playing past the bridge! With an eggbeater! He's insane!" She really liked it, and she has demanded more Wilco albums.

Good news yesterday, even if only I care. I finally got my equipment for my REAL promos. Between now and November 20th, I must execute 75 promotions in order to secure my sizeable bonus. It will be difficult, but I will do it. So, I will be downtown every night of the week. COME SEE ME. And I will buy you a beer.

Stayed in and watched Empire Strikes Back and ROTJ today on the pristine new DVDs. These are incredible. Half the the films (the FX, especially during the space and Hoth battles) look as if they were made in 1999, which should stop people bitching at the perceived technology gap between the two trilogies. Bring on Episode III.

Krista has never seen them before. So, I am torn as the whether or not to go through the prequels first and then the originals, or show them to her in the order which they came out. I think the latter will do.

Oh yeah, I played Fable ALL LAST WEEKEND. And as impressed as I was with the game when I was playing it, I really wish that the little things (alignment, marriage, etc) had been integrated a little bit better. As it stands though, the sequel will blow it out of the water. I just wish that Molyneux would keep his trap shut about his games. Then there would be a lot less dissapointment.

So to continue with the complaints:

Our power bill was huge last month, around $300, and it was mainly due to the fact that lights, AC, TVs, etc. never EVER get turned off. So, I mention to my roommates last night that we need to be conscious in our efforts to turn things off so we don't pay that much again. Well, I get up an hour ago (after going to bed at 2:30 AM, mind you, so I should have a pretty good idea of the state of the house) and EVERY light downstairs, most of the upstairs lights, the STOVE, the TV and XBOX, and the outdoor lights are turned on.

Oh, yeah, AND THE FRONT DOOR IS HALFWAY OPEN!

I love living with people who get so fucked up at night that they don't even realize what they are doing.

So the weekend...where to start. Friday was Last Call to see Chip's band and Groovestain, with an unfortunate stint with Rehab. Nope, don't like 'em, no matter what people say.

Tailgating was fun as always, save for the walk from First street (Rilee's house) to our failed downtown promos, and then onward to the performing arts complex to meet everybody. I was so drunk by the time we got home that all I could do was win $50 in poker and then pass out.

Sunday Josh and I decided to head up to the Gorge and hike. Too bad that it was full when we got there. So, we went to Big Panther Creek, which was even worse. We decided to head over to Helen and hit up Raven Cliffs. Guess how many miles we got in 2 hours? 3. Fuck downtown Helen. And then, to make matters worse, I got a 16 over speeding TICKET in fucking ARCADE on the way home.***

Sat at home all day watching The Shield, which is my new addiction. Am mad at Krista for some stupid reason...well, I guess its because she cancelled our over week old plans to go on an Amici Broad River trip. I can count how many waking hours that we have spend together in the past 5 days on my hands...and she backs out to go with the people that she spends the majority of her time with...am I hurt? A little. Am I being a pussy? Yes, but I don't really care.

So now I am gonna go win some more of my friend's money. That should make up for it.

***Interesting sidebar. While the cop has me stopped for going a dangerous 62 miles an hour in a 45, two 11 year old kids go biking up the WRONG WAY of the 4 lane highway...right past us and the cop. This is the second time that Josh and I have witnessed this phenomena. I turn around to look at them as they brazenly bike past the cop's car, all the while hoping that he will say something to them. Not only does he not, he turns and waves at them as he is getting out of the car. So, I ask him if that is illegal...he says not only is it illegal, but extremely dangerous...but "kids will be kids." I love Arcade.

Ugh... my head hates me right now. I went to ATL last night to meet up with TJ, Ryan, Josh, and Katie as well as some of their friends. We partied for a bit at TJ's castle...er..gigantic house and then we went to CJ's Landing in Buckhead to see the other Josh's band, The Third Margin. Excellent show. Those four have ENERGY to burn, and the bassist is very talented.

After that we went back to TJ's and played some late night drunken poker. I won, but it was quite the Phyric victory due to the large amounts of vodka and wine that I ingested during the course of the game. Fun times though.

Now I have to gather my thoughts together and plan a meeting for 30 potential Miller girls tonight. Its gonna be a short one, I need some rest.

I have finally turned into Gay Decorator Dave. I have lived in this big brand new house for two months, and I finally decided to do something about the messiness. Because you see, I have two not so clean, in fact sometimes downright nasty roommates and I figure that if I decorate then they will be less motivated to destroy the house. I hope this works.

$200 at Target for candles, holders, fake flowers, a few decorative boxes, and a nightstand.

$50 at TJ MAXX for random odd vases, stands, statues, etc.

$50 at Walmart for TONS of cheap plants. I'm gonna be livin in the jungle!

Oh yeah, and my ex is even more of a mega whore. I just found out yesterday that she slept with the old manager of Annex a few weeks ago before he left to make it big in California. You see, we worked together, and that is kind of odd that she would do that. And I was wondering why he acted weird to me right before he left. I found out that someone clued him in on who she was soon thereafter. I don't care at all, in fact I find it a bit sad and pathetic what a...I hate to say it...skank she has become. I mean, its not like I hold guys in any higher regard, I would label myself the same thing if I slept with just 1/3 of the gross people that she has.

But, c'est la vie. she used to be such a nice girl too....
